Cosmothea 5.0 Species

Awhile back, I started moving only up-to-date 5.0 threads here. Some early 5.0 threads are no longer relevant due to changes to improve the game. This game is on hold while we review it and work on Epic Destinies.

Cosmothea 5.0 Species

One new thing you'll be seeing in Foundation, the core rulebook, is more options. Because the Cosmoverse is so darn big, there are way more variations on the existing species that could be encountered on various worlds than we could ever showcase in a single book, or even half a dozen books. As such, in 5.0 we'll be providing the means to "reveal" or "discover" species variants that aren't in the core rulebook.

You will be able to use a simple guide to introduce species, in addition to choosing from all the other core species available.

We are carrying forward all of the species from previous editions. The only thing that changes is which ones get into the core rulebook. A couple of the 4.0 species were swapped out for species from the creature books to free up space and keep the price point down. The goal in 5.0 is the same as it was in 4.0 regarding species - you can run characters using both the species in Foundation and in any monster books the GM approves you for. There are plenty of major species in the creature books, some you might think ought to be in the core rulebook, but we can't make that book freakishly big just because the setting is big.

Every chapter in the core rulebook requires art, writing and editing, so we're also keeping the price point down and speeding up completion by limiting how many get into Foundation, but there will be quite a few. I'll go over them more in the days ahead as with all aspects of 5.0.

The Number of "core" species has not yet been carved in stone, but least 9 of these will appear in Foundation:
Aetharys: a shapechanger with a variable, and rather alarming natural state, and deep mimicry talents
Axcii: An agile, bushy-tailed, golden-furred humanoid with bright eyes and a free-spirited nature
Dwarf: A short, wide-bodied, resilient humanoid with a proud heritage and a gruff demeanor
Elf: Tall, slender humanoids with pointy ears, pale skin, calm demeanor and an aptitude for magic
Exotic: An array of magical creatures from another dimension and Artificial bodies housing dying aliens
Gnome: Small, short-tempered, analytical humanoids talented at invention, lying and making enemies
Human: An ambitious and adaptable species driven to survive, explore and conquer the unknown
Klatuan: Simple-minded, beautiful, emotional, magical humanoids with incredible creativity
Nehi: A tiny, industrious fey capable of great feats of ingenuity, daring and magic
Orynii: A nervous, obsessive, frog-like species that travels inside a mobile shell with everything it owns
Pteryx: A feathered humanoid with a tainted past, questionable genetics & an inability to fly gracefully
Sygman: Formerly enslaved Cyborgs obsessed with self modification, self-perfection and justice
Taager: Brilliant, bulbous-headed, stoic humanoids with enormous brains and dangerous thoughts
Xeelotian: A stony giant with an affinity for earth, gentle demeanor and infinite patience

We simply can't include all of these, but they are very iconic to the Cosmoverse, so we'll include as many as we can and likely do sourcebooks on a few of them later.

Of these, Exotic is a huge kitchen sink, like the specialist, and can be used to reveal any number of species. Futher, it will also include at least a couple major "constructed" exotic samples and extradimensional exotics present in our Cosmoverse stories, adventures and games! Because there are so many iconic exotics in addition to making up your own, this one is still under review for the best way to present them.

I'll give you a summary of each next chance I get.
